Ten coffees, one free. A stamp for every haircut. Every shop on the street runs one, and every one of them hands you another piece of card to lose. Stacked keeps the lot on your phone: hold it near the tag at the counter, and the stamp lands.

Three taps from a coffee to a free one

  1. Tap the tag

    Hold the top of your phone near the shop's tag on the counter. The first tap at a shop you have never been to makes the card and stamps it in the same motion - there is nothing to sign up to and nothing to search for.

  2. Watch it fill

    Every card in the wallet is the shop's own: its colours, its artwork, its stamp. The spots fill the way the printed one did, and the card knows what it owes you at three stamps as well as at ten.

  3. Take the reward

    When something is ready the gift button fills up and says so. Open it, press redeem, and a five-minute claim goes up on the screen to hold out over the counter. Rewards last six months, and the app says how long each one has left.

Tells you when to go

Every reward ready to be taken, soonest to run out first, each one with whether the door is open right now, how far away it is, and how long is left.

Keeps your name out of it

A shop sees a Stacked ID and what it stamped. Not your name, not your number, and nothing at all unless you let that shop send you news.

Survives a new card design

When a shop changes its card you get a look at the new one with your stamps already on it, and moving over never costs you a reward you had already reached.

Finds the next one

Discover lists shops near an address you pick, nearest first, with what each one is offering - so a card can be collected before the first coffee rather than after it.

For the shop at the other end of the tag

One tag on the counter, and the card is yours to run. Set the number of stamps and what they are worth, add a reward partway along, upload the artwork you already print so the card on the phone is the card your customers know. Changes sit as a draft until you publish them.

Looking a customer up is their Stacked ID and nothing else, and the history shows what was stamped, when, and by whom.

Questions

Do I need an account?
No. The wallet belongs to the phone, so you can carry on without one and everything works the same. An account is there for when you want the cards to outlive the handset.
What if my phone has no NFC?
Most phones made in the last decade have it - it is the same chip that pays for the coffee. Where it is missing or switched off, a card can still be added from Discover; it is the stamping that needs the tag.
What does a shop learn about me?
Your Stacked ID and the stamps it has given you. News and offers are off until you turn them on, shop by shop, and turning one back off is one tap in the same place.
When can I get it?
It is being built now, in Auckland, and it is not in the stores yet. Leave an email and you will hear once, when it is.
